Coming Back

Every time I set up my blog using Docker containers and a lot of network configs, the service gives me a default placeholder post, "Coming soon". But for me, I want to name this post "Coming back."

I can’t remember how many times I’ve reinstalled the blog services. Ghost doesn’t have a great backup or export function, and I can only get text-only articles. Every time I rewrite the configs, paste in the previous posts, and customize the theme, I tell myself: this is the last time I’m doing this, and I’ll never do it again.

However, as some of you probably know, I can’t help myself. I remember someone asking why I constantly switch platforms or change the setup, and I said it was because I didn’t want to pay for a subscription and wanted control of my data. To be honest, I realize I lied. I just want to do it. I enjoy setting things up and messing around, even if it means a lot of effort.

Another reason why I like my blog is that this is a world where you can create everything however you like. There is no character limit like social media, with limited image and video support, and you can get philosophical or just complain about school life. It is also a really good way to record your life: for example, when I looked at Feb 16, 2024 post, that was the first time OpenAI released Sora (a video generation model), and now Sora 2 tops APP Store Free APP now. It is my history from my perspective, which is pretty cool.

It’s a little ironic that the headline promise of digital notes is that they’re easier to preserve than paper notes, but that’s often not true. Just look at how easily a service can shut down and how quickly data can be lost, is it really better than paper notes?

Now with the four day weekend, I just recovered everything and improved my workflow for the next month of study. I think I am a little bit too excited to get everything running again (and even better), and I would not talk about the school life. I would probably talk about homecoming next week (maybe?), and then college app is also definitely worth some posts to talk about. Nice to see you all again in this way.

I’m coming back!
