This policy explains what I collect, why I collect it, and how you can control it. The Site is an independent personal publication. It is not a company newsletter, affiliate list, or advertising network.

1. What this site does

The Site publishes essays, notes, translations, and other writing. If you subscribe, you may receive:

  • Transactional email: signup confirmation, magic-link / sign-in messages, password or membership notices
  • Newsletter / marketing email: notices when new posts are published, and occasional related updates you opted in to receive

I only email people who submitted their address on this Site.

2. Information I collect

If you only read public pages: your browser will typically send an IP address, user-agent, and request URL to the host and CDN. I do not use that to build a marketing list.

If you subscribe or create a membership via Ghost Portal, I may store:

  • Email address (required)
  • Name, if you provide one
  • Membership status and the date you subscribed
  • Sign-in / confirmation timestamps
  • Comments you post, if comments are enabled for members

Automatically, when you use the Site: cookies or similar storage needed to keep you signed in, remember Portal/session state, and protect the Site (for example Cloudflare’s bot challenge). Ghost may also record basic, aggregated analytics (such as page views). I do not sell this data.

I do not buy, rent, scrape, or import third-party email lists.

3. How I use the information

  • Deliver the newsletter and membership email you requested
  • Authenticate your membership (magic links / sign-in)
  • Show members-only posts if you have access
  • Display and moderate comments
  • Operate, secure, and debug the Site
  • Honor unsubscribe and deletion requests

I do not sell your personal information. I do not share it for third-party advertising.

4. Email and processors

Email is sent through Mailgun (Sinch Email). Ghost (the publishing platform), the server that hosts this Site, Cloudflare (CDN, DNS, and bot protection), and Mailgun act as processors on my behalf. They receive only what is needed to deliver the service (for example, your email address and message content).

Signup happens on this Site:

Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribes are processed automatically and without delay. Transactional mail (confirmation and sign-in) may still be sent when you request that action.

  • Consent: sending the newsletter
  • Contract / requested service: creating a membership, signing you in, sending confirmation mail
  • Legitimate interests: securing the Site, preventing abuse, basic analytics

You may withdraw newsletter consent at any time by unsubscribing.

6. How long I keep data

Membership and email records are kept while your subscription is active. If you unsubscribe or ask to be deleted, I will remove or anonymize your membership record except where I must retain a minimal record (for example, to honor an unsubscribe so you are not emailed again).

Server and CDN logs are retained only as long as needed for security and operations.

If I update this policy in a material way, I will change the effective date on this page.
