Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
Romans 5:1 NIV

Yes, too many things happened in the past 14 days, but when I reviewed it now, sitting in front of my mac, I just realized that it is actually ONE thing — Upper School Drama, Hamlet.

I still remembered the first time I operated lights is in SAC’s all clubs’ show. I was one of the activity managers and I was assigned to help with lights. I did not want to do it at first, but when I really got to learn to put up the keys, I was so amazed by it.

I still remembered the reason why I approached drama is art credit. And during that international student picnic with Kayden asked me if I have any question about BTA, before I knew about anything, anything about BTA, he told me: there is drama in BTA, and you don’t need to act out, you can also help with backstage or set painting or stuff like that. And you can still art credit.

And then, I was lights crew member for The Giver. And then, I was the light crew head for Hamlet.

When that I was and a little tiny boy,
With a hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
A foolish thing was but a toy,
For the rain it raineth every day.

From the year of doing two plays, The Giver, and Hamlet, I learn a lot personally: how to change the lights, how to design the power system for all 31 lights, and how to make the lights pointing to a certain angle so that they are more natural with a better effect. But, most importantly, I have met so many interesting people in this community. As Xavier has said, each people is so unique and contribute to drama in their ways, and with God’s work in each work, when all cast and crew join together, it is a fantastic show.

And it is also interesting that no one really knows what will happen and can control what will happen. In mathematics, it is called complex systems, but it is saying that each part is “blind” in the system: for example, I can do the lights, but I never know what’s happening backstage; the stage manager calls people, but they can’t control what will happen on the stage; the casts can finish their lines, but they never know when will their pair skip a line or move unexpectedly. So again, it is incredible.

But, in this system, there are definitely a lot of captains who control more than other people. Daliya, Caleb, Kayden, Elsa, and Emanuel, they are like five pillars that support the whole play, such as, The Giver. They are a team, guiding all people in drama. And also it is interesting that Caleb, Elsa, and Emanuel are all in AP Calc AB, and Daliya is in AP Calc BC, and they seniors are just so amazing. I can’t describe it but they are really so important in drama and school life.

Questions

  1. The light tree that is connected to the tree with DMX box, not the one with the box, has delay in receiving DMX signals. Sometimes it works, sometimes it takes several seconds to react. The one that is wirelessly connected is good, but the tree connected to this one is not very good. Is it the problem of DMX cable?
  2. Is it possible to separate the lights and the box? The brake goes off several times during the show.
